Never has a cliche been more true. PETCO outsourced their enitre IT department earlier this year but offered me a retained position as a “Store Software Architect”. Now mind you I’ve never been a software guy, I’ve been pretty much in networking since I started in IT in 1998 or so (but have dabbled in […]

Poor Jackson had two small masses that had to be removed at the vet yesterday. Everything went well and he’s doing fine but we are still awaiting the results of the biopsies. He’s got two large shaved patches but at least they just sedated him and used a local so he came out wagging his […]

I can’t believe it’s already been a whole year since Saratoga’s crippling spinal cord injury. She is getting around so well now it’s amazing. She runs as much as we’ll let her (although the faster she goes the more her back toes scrape the ground). She can go up a curb with no problem and […]

Sadly Dora passed away today but she had a good run. She lived probably twice as long as any other mouse we ever had, close to four years. We’ll miss you little one, and so will Jackson & Milo.

Our poor Dora (the wild deermouse) had to visit the vet last night. On Sunday we noticed that her ear looked bad and she had been scratching the heck out of it. It turns out the she had cut the ear pretty badly, we think on a metal wire that holds together the straw ball […]

Today is two years since we brought home Jackson so he’s probably about nine years old if we believe what they told us when we adopted him. This picture was taken as soon as we got him home; his dark spots have since disappeared.

Last night our parakeet Angel passed away. One minute he was fine, the next I head an odd noise and Jackson ran over to the cage and was looking up at Angel with his head cocked to the side. I ran over and poor Angel was on the bottom of his cage on his side […]

Holy moly, we got home tonight and out of the blue Saratoga started walking on all four legs for 4-5 feet at a time. This is truly amazing, it was only about six weeks ago that we brought her home with no feeling in her back legs and now she can cruise around on her […]

Saratoga seems to impriving every day. Over the weekend she has started swinging her back feet forward just a bit during physical therapy. She also has some bowel control and when we’re out walking her tail shoots straight up in the air right before she starts going. I’m not sure if that’s just a localized […]

Well after the downs & ups Saratoga is coming home tomorrow. She doesn’t have use of her back legs or control of her bladder just yet but her prospects are looking good. We’ll be doing physical therapy with her three times every day so she should be walking again in six weeks (hopefully).

Our sweet little Saratoga (who is only about five years old) has been in the hospital for five days now with a spinal cord injury. She had premature calcification of her backbone and something caused multiple discs to herniate and damage the spinal cord. The news was grim and we ended up driving an hour […]

Yesterday Rick, Holly, Saratoga and Milo did the Walk a Mile for the Animals charity walk to support the Rancho Coastal Humane Society (which is where we got Sara and Milo). We saw a cameraman from local News 8 filming there and as we were leaving he had his camera at ground level just as […]

Holly and I went to a local pet shop to get a Valentine’s Day portrait of our two dogs and damned if they didn’t have five dogs from a local shelter there that they were trying to adopt out. Once Holly gave me “the look” I knew we were going home with dog #3. They […]

Sorry for the lack of updates, the dogs have been keeping us very busy. After doing some research we decided that Milo is probably part Toy Manchester Terrier and not Dachshund after all. A lot of people ask if he’s a Min-Pin (Miniature Pinscher) and he does look kind of like one. However there is […]

Holly and I spent a great week in Paso Robles with Mom & Dad. We relaxed a lot and my Dad and I installed a new driver’s side door panel on the Corvette.
